New and Improved for Firefox and Safari

I recently learned that there were problems for Firefox and Safari users with text wrapping instead of stopping at 500 pixels and strange symbols appearing in the place of correct punctuation. I believe that those problems have been addressed now, and the pages should appear the same for all users.

However, if you have problems viewing pages, please let me know.

Now more than a rumor

The Southern Literary Messenger is now at work with Fantastic Horror to produce joint issues (or a joint issue) for October. Much of the material will be themed according to the season and we hope to see that the FH and SLM material are complementary in approach and subjects.

This is still 3 months off, so there are details to work out, but I hope to have much more to say in a month or so.

Gratuitous Borges

"It is a laborious madness and an impoverishing one, the madness of composing vast books — setting out in five hundred pages an idea that can be perfectly related orally in five minutes. The better way to go about it is to pretend that those books already exist, and offer a summary, a commentary on them... A more reasonable, more inept, and more lazy man, I have chosen to write notes on imaginary books."

The epigraph of SLM #2

There is no greater Monster in Being, than a very ill Man of great Parts.

The Spectator, No. 6, Wednesday, March 7, 1711. Richard Steele.

Now accepting fiction and poetry

Now that there are two issues out, I've decided to start hunting for fiction and poetry. The guidelines have been correspondingly updated at the blog, forum and main site, and I hope that readers will respond.

Submissions may be sent to submissions@southernliterarymessenger.com.
